 My Doula Services

As your doula, I offer the following in my doula package

Start with a Free Consultation!
Interview me face to face. Take this time to get to know me, and ask me questions. I will bring a small goodie bag of sample products - yours to keep, even if you don’t hire me.

Unlimited Phone and E-mail Support:
This means from the moment you hire me, I will be available to you by phone, and/or e-mail.  I am here to ease your fears and concerns, and help you understand whatever it is you need to know about your pregnancy, birth or newborn concerns. Not only will I be available to you throughout your pregnancy, I will continue this phone and email support until you are six weeks postpartum.

Labor and Delivery Support:
I will provide continuous emotional and physical support during your labor and delivery. I will enhance your partner/friend/family member’s role, - not take their place. I will be with you from the moment you decide you would like me to be there. I can help you while you labor at home until you are ready to go to the hospital, or you can call me when you get there. It’s all up to you!
After delivery, I usually stay for the first hour to help you with breast-feeding assistance and make sure you are comfortable.

Read books from my lending library
I have several good books on pregnancy and childbirth that I lend out to my clients.

2 Prenatal Visits:
During these visits, we will get to know each other better. (I certainly don’t want to attend your birth if you are in any way not comfortable with me).
I will discuss your birth plans with you and your partner/friend/family member, and determine what your goals are for your birth. I will help you write up a birth plan, if you would like to have one.
I will provide some education during our visits to better inform you of your choices. We will discuss things like common practices, and procedures for your pregnancy, labor and delivery. We will go over non-medicated pain relief techniques and practice using them.

I highly recommend taking my childbirth classes! You will have more time to get to know me, and I will learn more about you and what you are seeking for your birth. I offer a $50 discount towards my childbirth classes to my doula clients. Please note: Childbirth classes take the place of the 2 prenatal visits, but I may spend more time with you each class if you would like.

One Postpartum Visit.
I will meet with you once in your home after the birth (this is usually done just a few days after the birth). I can help you with breastfeeding, or refer you to somebody if you need extra help. We’ll talk about the birth and I will provide you with a timeline of events that happened during your birth.(Some things might be a bit fuzzy for mom!) I will usually spend an hour or two helping out around the house. Light housekeeping, making dinner, running an errand (such as grocery shopping), or watching the baby while mom sleeps, are examples of some of the things I might do during this time.

Optional Services

Optional Services:

Your Birth Story:
I like to give the mother/parents a written birth story.  I will either bring it to you at the postpartum visit, or mail it to you later. There is no extra charge for this.
If you would like like me to do a scrap page (or two), then I will do this for an extra $15 (which covers cost of materials). This includes either one or two pages, and it doesn’t matter what size you choose (81/2 X 11 or 12X12). You can view samples to the right or above this paragraph box.

Additional Prenatal Visits:
I will go with you to one appointment to meet with your doctor or midwife. This is at no charge. Some people like to introduce their doula’s to their care providers ahead of time. If you are not comfortable with it, or if you don’t need me there, that is fine. This is just an optional service. If you need extra support, or need somebody to be there to help you understand certain things that may be happening to you or your baby - I can be there for you. After the first (free) visit, I charge $10 per visit plus $3 per every 15 miles I need to travel. (This helps cover my gas and my childcare).

* Please note that if you are a single mom, or if you are a family with low income, this charge may be lowered or waived depending on your special situation/s

My Doula Fee:

My basic fee is $450.
(Circle below is inside my range of service)
$550 for those outside my range (between 50-100 miles from my home)
ScreenHunter_2

I will require $50 when you sign my doula contract. This is included your basic fee.  (Basic fee is $450, after deposit is paid your balance will be $400). This reserves your due date spot. This fee is non-refundable. Payment installments are fine, but I do ask my clients to please give $50 for each prenatal visit. (prenatal visit fees are also non-refundable).
I do prefer to be paid in full before I consider myself “on call’, by the 37th week of pregnancy. However, I do understand that sometimes this can cause a financial hardship. Arrangements can be made to give the balance due at the birth, and in special cases, at the postpartum visit. I am willing to be on call prior to 37 weeks, especially for clients who are having problems with preterm labor. We can discuss these issues further on the phone or at the initial consult.

What does it mean when I am on call?

Every doula has their own on call practices. For me, it means that I will not travel over an hour from my client’s birth place or home. I try to be at their home or birth place within one hour when they call and ask me to come. I do ask that I be given 2 hours, especially when I need to travel further. I keep my doula bag stocked and ready to go.

I take one or two clients a month and have a backup doula in the unlikely event that both ladies go into labor at the same time. My backup doula is happy to come to a prenatal so that the parent’s have some time to get to know her too.  Arrangements can be made for you to be my only client for the month for $200 above my fee. Total: $650

Sliding/Negotiable Fees:
As I have already mentioned, I think everyone should have a doula! If you cannot afford my fees, we will discuss a reduced fee I also barter! How about certificates from department stores, restaurants or for gas? Own a business? How about trading services for services? I’ll trade for massage therapy, chiropractic care, printing services, vehicle maintenance/repairs, and so much more. Be creative!  Call me and let’s see if we can work something out!

Combination Package (doula and prepared childbirth classes): $600

Happiest Baby Package:
(Doula service, prepared childbirth classes, and Happiest Baby Class)
$650
