* Herbal Hot/Cold Packs (Comes with protective fleece cover with Velcro belt)
Made in the USA by Nature Creation, this hot/cold pack is wonderful for anyone - pregnant or not!
The velcro belts slip easily underneath almost any pregnant belly and stretches to attach to the other side. This is great for labor! The weight and the heat (or cold if you prefer) provides great ‘gate control’ (trust me, you’ll learn all about gate-control in your 2nd class). For heat therapy, stick it in the microwave for about 1 ½ minutes. For cold therapy, freeze for about 2 hours.
Material is 100% cotton and the filling consists of 100% Natural Herbs (Chamomile, Cinnamon, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Rosemary, Spearmint, Yarrow, Yellow-Dock Root, White Willow), Flax Seeds, Wheats.
Please read the ingredients to see if you have an allergy to any of ingredients before you purchase your kit. (And of course, follow the directions provided in the box before using).
Back packs come in 5 colors (shown below), but some colors sell quicker than others so I can’t guarantee that color will be in stock. Colors are shown below in Black, Blue, Green, Purple, and Red.
The protective fleece cover comes in lavender only, and is machine washable (which is great if used during labor and it happens to get some birth fluids on it). Some hospitals in the area do not allow their microwaves to be used for non-food items, so I can’t guarantee you will get to use it for heat during labor.
**Gold's Gym 65 cm Exercise Stay Ball (or what we call in the business - “A Birth Ball”
This ball can be used for anyone pregnant or not. It can be great for relieving back pain at the end of pregnancy, and encouraging baby to rotate into an optimal position for birth. I’ll show you some of its uses in classes 2 and 6, but this ball is great for exercise too! This ball has sand in it, which helps stabilize it a bit. It’s Anti-burst feature prevents the ball from bursting during use. This ball can be used for people 5'2" to 5'11, but if you (or your partner) does not fit into this size category, just let me know and I’ll get you the size that you need. Maximum weight limit: 250 lbs.
***Essential Oil Kit
This simple kit comes with 1oz of peppermint essential oil, 1oz of tangerine essential oil, and a 4oz bottle of apricot kernel oil. Two Ziploc bags and a few Q-tips are also included.
Please use the essential oils responsively. Peppermint has been cautioned for use in pregnancy, for certain medical conditions, for children less than 5, and may decrease breastmilk supply if used daily.
****The Rebozo
The Rebozo is a traditional Mexican shawl that doulas use as a labor and comfort measure tool. The rebozo has a range of uses during labor and birth, from providing optimal fetal positioning to holding a fetal monitor in place - this can certainly come in handy! I will show you some of the ways to use your rebozo in classes 2 and 6, but you are also welcome to borrow my DVD “Reviving the Rebozo” from my lending library. Before and after birth, it can be used for a shawl or scarf, or as a simple decorative birth souvenir. Below is a picture of the colors and patterns that I have available. The rebozos are 28X70 inches. Fabric may vary, but most are a Jacquard Pashmina. (swatches shown below)
Emergency Birth Kit
It’s highly unlikely that you will need this kit, but it doesn’t hurt to be prepared. Many of the items in this kit can be used for other purposes too! If you don’t use any of the items, and don’t want to keep any - consider donating the items to local charity - (There is a midwife that does births for single, homeless mothers as a ministry and could use the supplies).
1 Pair of Sterile gloves (SELECT Large or med size) - Don’t use ‘em for the birth? That’s okay, use them for cleaning, or make party balloons :-)
2 OB Towelette, antiseptic, 5" X 8". (Can be used for situations not dealing with birth)
1 Gauze Sponge Tray , STERILE, 4 X 4, 12-ply, tray of 10. (Can be used for general cuts and scrapes)
1 Adult Apron, polyethylene, pull over. Latex free. 28 in x 46 in (Halloween costume? Painting Apron?)
2 Underpad, 23 X 36 (Wouldn’t hurt to cover the car seats in case her water breaks!)
1heavy flow pad -non-sterile (Prank birthday present?)
1 peri- cold pack pad (sterile) (Your hospital may only let you have one right after birth, it doesn’t hurt to have another one to help with pain and swelling.. Can be used for hemorrhoids too)
1 Bulb Syringe, 2 oz. (It wouldn’t hurt to have a spare one anyway)
1 unbleached cotton baby hat (Use it or give to a friend)
1 36X36" baby blanket (Do you know how many people want to steal these from the hospitals? You get your own for a fraction of the cost! Great for swaddling your newborn or using for a burp-cloth)
1 emergency baby blanket - (Okay, so I don’t have an extra use for this unless you want to carry it in your car. If you would like to leave it out of the kit, I can do that :-)
2 Sterile cord clamps (Yeah, I don’t have any other use for these either, but then you really aren’t paying for these anyway).
2- 1 gallon sized Ziploc Freezer bags
